Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 22, 2026
Thetawave Technologies (“Company”, “we”, or “us”) builds DBNox, a desktop database engineering workbench. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the DBNox application (the “Application”), visit dbnox.com (the “Site”), or use related customer-portal and download services (together, the “Services”).
Particularly important
Please review the sections on what we never collect, your rights, and changes to this policy.
Definitions
- Application means the desktop DBNox software for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Site means our public website and marketing pages at https://dbnox.com.
- Services means the Application, Site, customer portal, license activation, and related support channels we operate.
- Personal data means information that identifies or can reasonably identify you as an individual (for example name, email address, or billing details).
By using the Services you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of personal data processed in connection with the Services is Thetawave Technologies. Contact us at support@dbnox.com.
2. Why we process personal data
Purposes
We process personal data only as needed to:
- provide, secure, and improve the Services;
- fulfill purchases, licenses, downloads, and support requests;
- operate the customer portal and license activation;
- communicate product updates, security notices, and (where allowed) relevant offers;
- comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.
Legal bases
Depending on your location and the activity, we rely on performance of a contract (for example delivering a license you purchased), legitimate interests in operating and securing a desktop product and website, and consent where required (for example certain Site cookies or optional marketing email).
3. What we do not collect from the Application
DBNox is designed to be desktop-native and local-first. Database connections run from your machine. We do not require a mandatory DBNox cloud proxy for database traffic.
In particular, we do not retrieve or store:
- the contents of your databases, query results, or SQL scripts;
- connection strings, passwords, SSH keys, or OS keychain secrets;
- schema dumps, notebooks, or project files kept on your device, unless you deliberately attach them to a support request or other communication you send us.
Credentials you save in the Application use operating-system secure storage where supported. That material stays on your device under your control.
4. Information we may collect
Information you give us
- name, email, organization, and billing details when you purchase a license, register for the portal, or contact support;
- license keys, activation records, and device identifiers needed to validate your license;
- information you include in support tickets, forum posts, or email to us.
Information from partners
If you buy through a reseller or payment processor, we may receive order confirmation details needed to fulfill your license (typically name, email, and purchase metadata). Payment card data is handled by the payment provider under their own terms.
Information collected automatically on the Site
When you visit the Site we may log technical data such as IP address, browser type, device/OS, referring URL, pages viewed, and approximate timestamps. If analytics cookies or similar technologies are enabled, they will not include SQL, connection strings, credentials, or AI prompts from the Application.
Optional Application telemetry and AI
Optional crash reporting, update checks, or cloud AI features only send what you enable and what is required for that feature. Cloud AI receives only the context you explicitly allow; enabling a model provider is not the same as granting us access to your databases. Local models (for example via Ollama) keep that context on your machine when configured that way.
5. Cookies
The Site may use essential cookies required for security and basic operation, and—if you consent where required—analytics or preference cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may limit Site features such as the customer portal session.
6. How we use and share information
We use personal data for the purposes in section 2. We do not sell your personal data.
We may share personal data with:
- service providers who help us host the Site, send email, process payments, or deliver downloads, under contracts that limit their use of the data;
- professional advisors or authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Services;
- a successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to this Policy or equivalent protections.
7. International transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers. Contact us if you need more detail about the mechanisms we use.
8. Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, including license records, accounting, security, and legal obligations. Application data on your device is retained under your control until you delete it or uninstall the Application.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Protect your devices, accounts, and license keys.
10. Your rights
Depending on applicable law (including GDPR where it applies), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port personal data, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email support@dbnox.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
11. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, contact us so we can delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows when it changed. Material changes will be posted on the Site; where required, we will provide additional notice (for example by email). Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
